The Benefits of Open Cell Spray Foam
Open-cell spray foam is an efficient and economical type of insulation and has several features that make it a great choice depending on your needs:
Open cell spray foam is your economical choice for spray foam insulation, and it can be a great choice to fit your budget. It’s a lighter density than closed-cell spray foam, which makes it more affordable for many, but with a lower R-value. Open-cell performs better in interior applications, as it is more permeable to moisture (not ideal to exterior applications).
Open cell spray foam is a much better sound-barrier than closed cell spray foam, at nearly 2 times the sound resistance than it’s closed cell sibling.
Protect your home right with open-cell spray foam:
- The tiny cells that make up the foam are not completely closed, allowing air to fill in the spaces within the material. This makes it a lower density, economical choice for insulation.
- Open cell foam is more permeable to moisture, so it should not be used in exterior applications or in situations where it could come in contact with water (e.g. roofing applications).
- Open cell foam performs very well as a sound barrier, having twice the sound resistance for normal frequency ranges as closed cell foam.
